Job Description Title:Fire Captain Department/Division: Fire Department Status:Regular Full-time Salary:100,060.00 to 105,060.00 Annual Supervisor: Battalion Chief Subordinates:Fire Apparatus Engineer Firefighter/Paramedic Firefighter Benefits: 401KRetirement Plan (Eligibility after (1) one year service). Company matches half of the employees contribution up to 7% PaidMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance VacationUp to 13 days per year for FT employees Sick LeaveUp to 8 days per year for FT employees Life Insurancethe Company provides up to $50,000.00 POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision, to supervise Fire Department personnel and have direct command and control of assigned activities; to respond to fire alarms and other emergency calls for the protection of life and property; to formulate and implement a fire technical instruction and training program; to conduct fire fighting drills; and to perform related work as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Plans and schedules work assignments of fire station personnel and/or administration. Evaluates the performance of fire fighting personnel; recommendations selection; promotion and discipline of personnel; counsel employees and process informal and formal grievances; establishes standards of performances. Responds to emergency incidents; in an all risk FD and makes decision as to methods of combating fire, hazardous material incidents; delivery of emergency medical services and miscellaneous incidents. Supervises and participates in the laying of hose lines, directing water streams, placing ladders, ventilating buildings, extricating and rescuing victims. Cleaning up premises after fires have been extinguished. Supervises and participates in the department safety programs. Instructs and drills fire department personnel in firefighting methods and techniques and related in accordance with department policies and procedures. Attend fire officers meetings; maintain records and prepares reports. Analyzes data, investigations. Supervises and participates in inspection of assigned occupancies for fire prevention and pre-fire planning Operates Tribal vehicles. Performs related work as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE AND ABILITIES: Current fire fighting principles, methods, techniques, and strategies. Knowledge in hazardous materials, fire prevention procedures and related codes. Principles of hydraulic, construction engineering, personnel, supervision and training. Knowledge in tribal geography and watery system. Ability to prepare and present concise written and oral reports, conduct thorough inspections and investigations. Ability to plan and direct the work of a fire station or administrative staff. Ability to supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff. Assume incident commander duties as required. Establish effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Experience and Training Guidelines Any combination of training, education and experience, which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position. A typical qualifying entrance background is supervisory level experience at the fire company level; and Completion of course work in fire science or a closely related field; or Experience at or equivalent to the level of Fire Apparatus Engineer, Firefighter/Paramedic and/or Firefighter from which the incumbent has acquired the knowledge and abilities listed above. EMT (B or P), CPR, SFM Fire Fighter 1, SFM Fire Fighter 2, Driver Operator 1A, Driver Operator 1B, CDL Class B Class B License with appropriate endorsements, Incident Command System (ICS), 100, 200, 300, Hazardous Materials FRO, Hazardous materials Incident Command, S-110, S-130, S-190, S-231 SFM Fire Officer Certification (old credential), or; SFM Company Officer: 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, and Instructor 1 (new credentials) Must complete the BlueCard(r) 50-hour online training within 90-days of position placement, Must complete the 24-hours post training of the BlueCard(r) 50-hour training within 1 (one) year of completion of the 50-hours online training, Must possess a current California Drivers license during tenure of employment, A DMV print out is required with your employment application. Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment. Must successfully pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act. WORKING CONDITIONS: Environmental Conditions: Exposure to varying inside temperatures, correspondent with seasonal climate outside; exposure to smoke and hazardous material fumes, heat from fires, seasonal elements at emergency sites; exposure to communicable diseases (HIV, HBV, HCV, tuberculosis, meningococcal meningitis, various parasites, etc.) Physical Conditions:Essential and marginal functions require maintaining physical condition necessary for arduous work and frequent bending, turning, reaching, grasping, kneeling, standing, sitting, and walking; and moderate to heavy pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying.
